Karmanos Cancer Institute visitor restrictions for COVID-19 - Updated 6/10/2020

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Restricted Visitor Information - All Karmanos locations

To protect the health of our communities and as a safety precaution to prevent the risk of spreading COVID-19, Karmanos Cancer Institute is continuing visitor restrictions.

Outpatient clinics:

Due to the increased risk for our immunocompromised patients, no visitor is permitted in any Karmanos cancer treatment facility. Visitors may wait in their car in designated parking areas at the treatment location. An exception includes one healthy adult accompanying a patient for a new patient consultation visit.

Inpatient units:

Patients in inpatient rooms are allowed one healthy adult visitor per day. Patients who are COVID-19 positive or are suspected will not be allowed visitors. We cannot accommodate overnight stays at this time. Visitation hours are from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. Visitors who are approved to enter will be:

  • Screened for coronavirus symptoms including fever and respiratory infections. If symptomatic, they will not be allowed to enter.
  • Expected to wear a face mask while in the hospital.
  • Expected to stay at the patient’s bedside and not wander.
  • Expected to sanitize/wash hands every time they enter or leave the patient’s room.
  • Expected to leave immediately when visitation is over, and not wander through hallways.

All visitors must be 19 years or older. Visitors must always remain in the patient’s room and not gather in common areas such as waiting rooms or lobbies. Visitors will be asked to return home if they exhibit symptoms or respiratory infection (fever, runny nose, cough, shortness of breath) or do not comply with the above policy.

We understand the important role of loved ones during this time and encourage patients to use our free Wi-Fi to communicate with family members and friends through a mobile device, tablet or laptop.

Our commitment to health and safety remains the highest priority. We continue to monitor the risk of COVID-19 closely and will adjust visitor restrictions as necessary. We appreciate your help in keeping our patients and employees safe.
