Amenities

Hot / Cold Beverages

Free coffee, tea, hot cocoa, apple and orange juice are available in the infusion area of the cancer center. A variety of local eateries are available in the area. Please ask any staff member for more information on your local options.

Parking

Free parking is available for your convenience. Multiple handicapped spaces are available for use. Wheelchairs are accessible for use during your visit to the cancer center; these are located just inside the lobby entrance.

No Smoking / Help Quitting Tobacco

Karmanos Cancer Institute at McLaren Greater Lansing is a non-smoking campus. This means that there is no smoking on any hospital property. Counseling is offered to help quit tobacco free of charge at the Michigan Tobacco Quit line at 1-800-QUIT-NOW.

Internet Access

Wi-Fi is available free of charge. You can connect to the Wi-Fi simply by choosing “guest” as the option on your phone, tablet or laptop.

DVD Player and Movies

DVD players and movies are provided, free of charge, in the medical oncology chemotherapy room to assist relaxation during your chemotherapy infusion

Lab Services

Laboratory services are available on-site and we have several satellite draw stations for your convenience. Please ask your care provider for a list of the satellite draw stations in your community.

Resources and Support

While you and your family adjust to a new cancer diagnosis, staff members are committed to helping you understand and manage your cancer treatments. We are pleased to offer individualized and personal support.

Cancer Care Nursing Team

Our nursing staff in medical and radiation oncology work hand-in-hand with patients, their families, caregivers, medical staff and the community to assure that an appropriate plan of care is developed and implemented to meet the needs of the patients. The nursing staff works collaboratively to educate patients and schedule medical care. Many of our nurses specialize in oncology (cancer) care and are designated Oncology Certified Nurses (OCN). Your cancer care team also includes medical assistants who work directly with your physicians and nurses.

Education and Cancer Resource Center

Cancer patients and their caregivers have access to many informational booklets and fact sheets designed to assist the cancer patients with their jour ney and understanding of their disease. Topics include information on the diagnosis, treatment of cancer and coping with side effects

Genetic Counseling

The Cancer Genetic Counseling Service at the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Center involves documenting detailed personal and family history, conducting a personalized risk assessment and discussing your genetic testing options. The goal is to help you understand your cancer risk and the chance that cancer might be passed along through the genes in your family (risk assessment). This information can also help you to become more involved in ways to reduce your risk by modifying your lifestyle and developing a personalized screening and treatment plan.

Integrative Therapies

Integrative therapies are used with cancer treatments to treat the whole patient, which includes mind and body. These therapies place an emphasis on decreasing stress and anxiety and improving one’s general sense of well-being. McLaren Breast Center

A state-of-the-art facility dedicated to providing comprehensive breast health services. The breast center offers 2D and 3D digital mammography, breast ultrasound, stereotactic ultrasound and MRI-guided breast biopsy. The breast navigator works one-on-one with patient’s and their family members to ensure every patient receives dedicated and personalized care.

McLaren Physical Therapy, Sports Medicine and Fitness

McLaren provides comprehensive, individualized treatments to help patients decrease pain and improve function after injury, surgery or illness. Services include specialists in:

Nutrition Counseling

Your nutritional needs vary depending on your disease, cancer treatment and your metabolism. It is important to know that everyone does not have difficulty with nutrition. If you have any questions about nutrition or how to eat during your cancer care, please discuss with your physician or nurse. They may refer you to speak with a registered dietitian who can help address your needs. In addition, the resource room has general information on healthy eating habits to support you during your treatment and beyond

Spiritual and Pastoral Care

Spiritual care encompasses a wide range of services to provide education, support and spiritual direction for daily wellness and wholeness to patients. The goal of Spiritual Care services is to provide you and your loved ones with the spiritual support and resources you may need during your treatment.

The full-time day chaplain is available to patients and their loved ones, regardless of faith tradition, and can be reached at the Spiritual Care office inside the chapel or call 517-975-6010.

A rotation of on-call chaplains are ready to respond to spiritual care requests evenings and weekends. In addition, our chapels are available for individual prayer and meditation for all faiths at any time.
