Michael Dominello, D.O., radiation oncologist, Neuro-Oncology Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) leader, and Breast Cancer MDT member, joined ‘JR Sunday and explained the American Cancer Society’s data over the last 30 years that shows the cancer mortality rate has decreased. He described the treatments and clinical trials that have impacted the decrease in deaths and how Karmanos participates and often leads these studies. Dr. Dominello also defined the unique treatment services that Karmanos offers patients, including Gamma Knife Radiosurgery, which uses radiation in a precise manner to treat cancers that start in the brain and those that have metastasized to the brain while sparing healthy brain and body tissue.
