IN THE NEWS: Cancers Are on the Rise Among Women and Young Adults, Report Finds

According to the 2025 Annual Report to the Nation on the Status of Cancer, cancer cases are increasing in women and young adults, but at the same time, the number of cancer deaths in general is going down. Wasif Saif, M.D., MBBS, medical oncologist, co-leader of the Gastrointestinal and Neuroendocrine Oncology Multidisciplinary Team (MDT), and leader of the Phase I Clinical Trials MDT at Karmanos, explained there is a decrease in cancer deaths due to less people smoking, and the advancement of research, better cancer screening technology and better treatments. Dr. Saif also explained what this means for future cancer research and how patients can continue to lower their risk of cancer.
