Katie Thurston, a former contestant on ABC’s The Bachelor and star of the network’s season 17 of The Bachelorette, was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. She said she receives some non-helpful comments from the public as people try to relate to what she’s going through. Felicity Harper, Ph.D., clinical psychologist and member of the Supportive Oncology Multidisciplinary Team at Karmanos, gave some examples of what not to say to a cancer patient, and tips on what you can say or do instead, even when it comes to wanting to give them advice.
