Grand Valley State University – HRSA Nursing Workforce Diversity Grant:

McLaren Health Care, Spectrum Health, and Grand Valley State University (GVSU) are transforming the nursing workforce by targeting the need to increase nursing educational opportunities for nurses from disadvantaged backgrounds and underrepresented minorities.

This program provides financial support for qualified students from McLaren Health Care and Spectrum Health, who gain admission into select GVSU Kirkhof College of Nursing (KCON) programs. Graduates will be able to deliver culturally aligned care and leadership in providing care for medically underserved areas and populations.

Registered Nurse (RN) to BSN program (online format with synchronous and asynchronous coursework) – now accepting applications for Winter 2022 (January). Build on your nursing associate’s degree and prepare for BSN-level nursing courses during the winter and/or spring/summer 2022 semesters before diving into your BSN coursework in the fall 2022 semester.

  • Winter 2022 Semester: Students may complete necessary pre-requisite coursework, meet with their academic advisor, and obtain their individual program plan.
  • Spring/Summer 2022 Semester: Students may continue to complete necessary pre-requisite coursework
  • Fall 2022 Semester: Nursing courses begin.

Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) - Clinical Nurse Leader program (hybrid online and in-person format)

  • This executive style program meets for in-person classes in downtown Grand Rapids five times per semester (Thursday and/or Friday sequence). The remaining coursework is delivered completely online.

Admitted McLaren and Spectrum nurses will be individually responsible for approximately *20% of their tuition and program fees. The remainder of the program cost will be funded by GVSU, McLaren/Spectrum, and the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).
