Patient Education

Patient Education

Patients and families are strongly encouraged to watch the videos and read the information provided for the form of treatment they will receive

Types of Classes

  • Chemotherapy
  • Catheters

If you or someone close to you is a patient at the Karmanos Cancer Institute, we encourage you to visit the Education and Resource Center to get information that will help you:

  • Understand the diagnosis and possible treatment options.
  • Make informed treatment decisions.
  • Effectively communicate with the health care team.
  • Know what to expect before, during and after treatment.

Pre-Treatment Chemotherapy Orientation

  • View the class flyer here.

Cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy typically have many questions. Well-informed patients respond more positively to treatments and are less apprehensive about the process.

We welcome and encourage you to watch the Karmanos Cancer Institute Pre-Treatment Chemotherapy Orientation. We provide answers to questions you may have about chemotherapy, what to bring with you to your treatment appointments and who to contact in case of an emergency. For more information and to watch the class, please use the links below.

Catheter Care Orientation

This video provides patients and their caregivers with an understanding of how the catheter will be, placed, used and how to care for it. Infection control practices are taught. The interactive class provides demonstration of all techniques.
